Blagojevich wanted a little money on the side.
Scratch that. Blago wanted money on the side, middle, up, down, underneath and over the top. The Blagojevich scandal is about greed, but could it be more than that? Could it be about getting caught?
In gym locker rooms across America, guys are laughing at Blagojevich. Guys who might not be rocket scientists, politically connected or even business men, are making their share of wisecracks at the Illinois Governor's expense. If you're going to be a political thief you'd better be a good one.
Blagojevich is no Rocket Scientist Either
Before blogger/pundits go and get all sanctimonious on me, let's get one thing straight from the jump, most American's see most politicians as mostly scum-buckets. It was this deeply held belief that politicians are liars which led so many of us to support Barack Obama. Obama appeared to be above the dirty dealing, above the greed and as his campaign stated over and over, "above old school politics".
Us, scrambling for a buck, just hoping to have enough leftover to put our kids through college, glad gas prices are finally dropping, hey did you catch the game last night, wow, did so and so get kicked off so and so reality show everyday type American's, we'd like to believe America can have a corruption-free government, but then again, regardless to how many of us voted for McCain - Palin, we really aren't that stupid, or are we?
What we've collectively agreed to do is not so much as to trust our politicians, we don't trust our politicians, but we do trust our politicians not to get caught being politicians. You read that right. Don't get caught doing what we're pretty sure your doing anyway. Like a wife who can smell another woman's fragrance on her husbands clothes, it's not that she doesn't 'know you're cheating, she knows, she just figures you aren't worth the effort of divorcing, for what? To end up back on the market a year later looking for another one of you cheaters? So we play along;
"Of course you didn't have intercourse with that woman"
"Of course you didn't just select an unqualified jerk for an important cabinet position just because you know the guy"
"Of course you weren't secretly funding or providing weapons or technology for *insert crazy dictator's name*"
I believe Blagojevich is an idiot too, but unlike most people...
I have facts to back up that belief;
1. Blagojevich has been under investigation since 2003. Anyone who knows they're under Federal investigation and still continues to run off at the mouth like Blagojevich is either an idiot or sucker with a born to lose tattoo on his chest.
2. Blagojevich can't play naive. He knows good and well that an Illinois Governor is far from "untouchable". Blagojevich replaced former Illinois Gov. George Ryan, who is currently serving a 6 1/2-year prison sentence. Ryan, who was governor from 1999 to 2003, was convicted of corruption in 2006 for steering state contracts and leases to political insiders while he was Illinois secretary of state and governor. You'd think a person with reasonable intelligence would be smart enough to know better given the situation he inherited, and again, you'd be wrong.
Yes, Blagojevich maybe be an idiot, but he isn't some rogue, some alien from another planet the likes of which man has never seen. Blago is a corrupt politician with a tapped phone. Just what types of corruption would we uncover if we miked Congress, The Senate and the Oval Office? If we could be a bug on the wall, would we hear other 4-letter words and super-charged bombshells about dirty extortion planning?
The guys in my locker room sure believe we would and so do I.
So Mr. and Mrs. go on a news show and point fingers at Blagojevich spotlight thirsty, political point seeker, try not to crack a rib yucking it up about Blagojevich, you're no better than Blagojevich, only smarter, and just because we pretend not to know, doesn't mean we don't know. We just don't want the kids to go through the drama of a messy divorce and we're used to pretending.
